What Is Dyscalculia?

duhs•kal•kyoo•lee•uh

Dyscalculia is a neuro-developmental disorder that is estimated to affect 7% of the population. Similar rates to dyslexia, which affects reading ability, dyscalculia negatively impacts a child or adults’ ability to attain number sense, memorize math facts, do accurate and fluent calculations, and can affect mathematical reasoning skills.

Dyscalculia Screener

The DySc screener includes key questions to help identify weaknesses in the four key components of dyscalculia:

1.number sense: ability to use numbers;

2.arithmetic facts: ability to remember facts in math;

3.accurate and fluent calculations: ability to calculate math numbers with operations;

4.accurate mathematical reasoning: ability to reason with numbers in a strategic way.

DySc Report

The report generated from the DySc screener will include a score which indicates the presence or lack of potential risk factors and an action plan based on the score. Share results with a qualified professional to determine whether a formal diagnosis might be in order. No matter the score, recommended interventions that are effective for struggling students and those with dyscalculia will be provided.
